Does ADT Work with Google Home And Amazon Alexa?

You  know ADT has watched over families for over 150 years, but you may ask yourself if this trusted name in home security is able to offer the everyday convenience of voice activation. The answer is a definitive yes! ADT in fact works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and there’s a lot you can do. Explore what’s possible and find tips for integrating voice commands into your comprehensive home security system.

What Can You Actually Do With Voice Commands In Your Cincinnati Home?

Now that you’ve confirmed you can utilize your ADT alarm system with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, you may be curious as to what you might do. Here are a few examples:

  • Arm and disarm your system
  • Toggle smart lights off or on
  • Activate connected smart locks
  • Adjust thermostat settings

If you’re busy making dinner, and need a simple way to brighten a light or change the temperature, just vocalize a command. It’s a breeze and allows you to manage your system without grabbing your phone or touching the touchscreen panel.

Use These Spoken Commands To Control Your ADT Devices

A quick spoken command is all it takes to operate your ADT smart home devices. Keep in mind, if you verbalize a command to a device, such as your living room light or thermostat, you must use the name you already gave the device.

Control your ADT tools with these Google Home commands:

  • Hey Google, arm my system stay.
  • Hey Google, arm my system away.
  • Hey Google, lock the (door name).
  • Hey Google, turn on the (light name).
  • Hey Google, set the thermostat to 68 degrees.

Amazon Alexa requires slightly different instructions, but it functions about the same. Here several common ones:

  • Alexa, arm ADT in away mode
  • Alexa, disarm ADT
  • Alexa, turn on the (light name).
  • Alexa, [[lock the (door name)]].
  • Alexa, set the (thermostat name) to 68 degrees.

You can also use voice commands to ask questions. You may want to find out if your front door is locked or the current temperature setting of your thermostat. Just say a command like, “Alexa, is the (door name) locked?” and you’ll get a reply.

Is There Anything You Can’t Do With Voice Controls?

Voice integration does have a few restrictions. To illustrate, you can’t adjust settings in your ADT smartphone app by saying a command. You’ll also need to enter a PIN when performing certain actions, such as unlocking a door or disarming your alarm system.

How To Set Up Voice Activation In Your Cincinnati Home

Setting up voice activation is straightforward no matter what smart speaker you have. You’ll generally follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Google Home or Amazon Alexa app on your phone
  2. In Google, navigate to Devices or tap the Add (+) icon and choose Works with Google Home. Within the Alexa app, tap the menu, then choose Skills & Games.
